I had to get in on the action and alert all pgh.foodies to a wonderful place for lunch in the 'Burgh. The Cafe at Clayton offers lunch and high tea at a reasonable price and in a beautiful setting. The Clayton is the Frick mansion and grounds located at the edge of Frick Park near Penn Avenue. The chef was formally with La Foret in Highland Park. One may sit inside the charming country cottage strewn with ivy, or if it's a gorgeous day (like last weekend), one may dine under an awning and enjoy the lovely gardens. The lunch menu consists of salads, "gourmet-type" sandwiches, desserts and daily specials. The last time I went, I had a gorgonzola cheese, walnut, sun-dried tomato and greens salad - accompanied by a mango and blueberry galentee for dessert. My friend had a carmelized red onion and gorgonzola cheese pasta with a greens side salad (that particular daily special) and a lemon tart for dessert. Total bill came to around $24.00 --- but we got 10% OFF because one of us was a Clayton/Frick Art Museum member. I don't know if they have a liquor license, and I don't think they have plans to expand to a dinner service, but it's a wonderful place to go for lunch (there is parking available too). Service: the first time I went to the cafe, the service was very good. But this time, there seemed to be a "snafu" somewhere. The waitress brought everything we asked for eventually, and was very attentive after the "snafu" pasted. I think they got overwhelmed with a hugh lunch crowd. But my friend and I didn't mind sitting on the patio enjoying the sunshine. *****Warning******!!!!!! However, this place is becoming very popular, and the cafe only takes reservations for Clayton members only. ****Warning*******!!!!!
