Article 397 of pgh.food: From: mbj+@cs.cmu.edu (Michael Jones) Subject: Restaurants worth dining at Date: Fri, 28 Feb 92 22:28:25 -0500 Several people had asked me to suggest the Restaurants which I had in mind when I said that "I know of a number of Restaurants to go for a nice semi-formal dinner (excellent food, but not requiring a jacket and tie)." Some of my favorites in the area are: Kabuki -- good Japanese, prepared by a Japanese family, and served in a comfortable, family-like atmosphere. And far less expensive than Kiku, etc. Grand Concourse -- Excellent seafood, and other cuisines, served in a spectacular setting. Poli's -- Also excellent seafood, in a 1950's "good restaurant" setting. Cross Keys Inn -- American cuisine (roasts, lamb, etc.) in a colonial setting (a former stagecoach inn). And if you're up for a formal dinner (Jacket & Tie): The Hyeholde -- Game, Seafood, and exquisite daily preparations using seasonal ingredients in a reproduction of an English manor house. Expensive -- try to get IBM to pay for this one (we did). And my all-time favorite: Au Petit Paris -- Exquisite old French and seasonal fair, a fabulous wine selection, deserts to dream about. The owner/chef takes the time to visits each table and really talk to you, making sure you're having the best experience possible (without being obtrusive about it). Reasonably priced. A true five star restaurant. Just one drawback -- it's about a 2 hour drive away in Frostburg, MD. But consider making an evening of it -- it's well worth it. They consistently draw business not only from Pittsburgh, but from D.C. as well. It's that good.
