Article 563 of pgh.food: From: gerry@cmu.edu (Gerry Roston) Subject: Restaraunt review: El Ultimo Cafe Date: Thu, 11 Jun 92 12:39:11 -0400 Last night, my sister and I ate at El Ultimo Cafe, 2119 Penn Ave in the Strip District. The place is relatively new, its been there for less than a year. The decor is nice, and during the middle of the week, not very crowded. I ordered a bowl soup to start. The portion was large and the soup very tasty. For dinner, I had the brochette (a skewer with beef, sausage, chicken, onions and peppers) and my sister had the arroz con pollo. Both were well prepared, tasty and reasonable size portions. (I am a very big eater, most people would probably have found the portions large... my sister didn't finish her meal... I did) The wine selection is not bad, you can certainly find one to go with your meal. We did not have dessert although they looked quite good. We chatted with the ower, a CMU PhD from EDRC. She got tired of working in industry, and based on what she told us of her work environment, I can not blame her. She said that her restaraunt is a true cafe... you can stay as long as you want regardless of what you order. She also said that they have a reasonably priced lunch menu. Also, on weekends, there is live music. The bill came to $50 (without tip). I recommend this place. The food was good, the atmosphere nice (or to be consistent with my previous rantings... the atmosphere did nothing to detract from the meal) and the cost reasonable. -- Gerry Roston (gerry@cmu.edu) | Question with boldness even the existance Field Robotics Center, | of God; because if there be one, He must Carnegie Mellon University | more approve of the homage of reason, than Pittsburgh, PA, 15213 | that of blindfold fear.
