Article 10544 of cmu.cs.general: From: ssingh+@H.GP.CS.CMU.EDU (Sanjiv Singh) Subject: Three New Restaurants Date: Thu, 17 Dec 1992 14:41:40 -0500 Himalyan Tibetan Restaurant: The best thing that could have showed up in Oakland. This is a pleasant place, with good food and reasonable prices. They seem to have a fairly large menu and have decent lunch specials. I spotted a fair number of vegetarian dishes. Located across the street from Pakvale Saving on Forbes in Oakland (two blocks down from the Beehive). The place opened 3 weeks ago and already looks pretty busy. Hours- M, Th:11-8, F:11-9, Sa: 12-9 Tijuana Taco Restaurant: This is new mexican fast food restaurant located between the HTR and the Beehive (across from the Beehive). It seems to be about two notches above your standard Taco bell but definitely not as good as the Attic which is only half a block away. Prices are higher than fastfood but not too bad. The fajitas are decent. My Dung: This is a new Vietnamese restaurant in the strip (22nd and Penn) across from the El Ultimo Cafe. They seem to have two menus- chinese and vietnamese. I went with a bunch of Indians who have weaned on the fiery chilies of south india, and I must report that the vietnamese food we had got the better of us. Ears popped, tears streamed and there was much calling for water. Be warned, the vietnamese items are *much* spicier than the chinese ones. If you do get the ones marked with a (*) ask them to tone it down some. Otherwise, the food was better than average but not excellent. Prices were slightly higher than average ($8-10/entree). I hear there is a new Thai restaurant in Oakland that has been opened by the people who ran Bangkok house in Dormont. If someone has eaten at this place or has any more details, please post. -Sanjiv
